Fernando began his color guard career as a member of the North Shore High School Color Guard in Houston, Texas, from 2008–2011. Apart from drum corps, Fernando also performed during the winter guard season with Cypress Independent in 2012-2014
In 2015, he decided to begin to share his love for the activity as an educator for several high school, independent, and drum corps color guard programs throughout the country. Under his direction, the program was named a three-time Texas Color Guard Circuit State Champion, a UIL State Marching contest qualifier, and a BOA Regional finalist. During the winter seasons of 2015-2019, Fernando also served on the staff for his alma mater and eight-time world class WGI finalist, Cypress Independent.
