Wilbert Toruno resides in Austin, Texas where he is the color guard director at McCallum High School Fine Arts Academy. Originally from Miami, Florida, he has been part of the marching arts for over a decade. During the day he is a Special Education Teaching Assistant and holds a B.A. in Sustainability and the Environment from Florida International University.
As a performer he had the opportunity to march with numerous organizations including FIU marching band, University of Miami Frost Band of the Hour, South Florida Independent, Relentless Open, Relentless World, Spirit of Atlanta, and FIU Gold who were named the 2022 Independent A class champions.
As an educator he has worked with programs across south Florida and central where he continued to share his love for the activity through teaching. In Miami, he was the director and staff for Coral Gables HS, Ronald Reagan HS, Hialeah Miami Lakes HS, Hialeah Gardens HS, South Dade Senior HS, Hialeah HS, and Coral Reef HS. Upon moving to Austin he has worked with groups such as Moe & Gene Johnson HS, Judson HS, Round Rock HS, Lake Travis HS, Austin HS, and Lehman HS. On the independent stage, he was on staff for the FIU Marching Band, FIU Blue, Gold, and World, The Cadets, and currently on staff as a lead technician and a choreographer for the Seattle Cascades.
Outside of color guard, Wilbert enjoys the city he moved to from finding a local coffee shop, walking around downtown or by lady bird lake, getting into a new book, going on trails or hikes, and or a day in with a great film.
